The course required me (for three credit hours) to work around 8 hours a week for the entire semester. My experience has been so great, I chose to work 16 hours a week. Sometimes, I would even put in extra time outside of my hours, if there were little projects needed or a phone call to be made. As I wrote in my reflection journals, Fabbrini Law Group was a learning environment. My superiors all had an open door policy, allowing me to go outside of my comfort zone and connect with them more. I was also encouraged to ask questions and always learn new things.
My internship course (PLSC 370) asked that I submit 3 journals throughout the course of the semester, plus a reflection and a final research project. Having my internship through this class has allowed me to reflect in a way that I would not have on my own. With guided assignments and prompt questions, my class has allowed me to dive deeper into what I can get out of the internship. I had the opportunity to communicate with others taking this course, through ZOOM sessions and online forum conversations. This was was beneficial to not only get the opportunity to speak candidly about my experience, but to see other's experiences and how those experiences affected them. Signing a contract between me, my professor, and my supervisor allowed for excellent communication and assurance. As part of the course, my supervisor is asked to evaluate my performance over the semester. This requirement allowed me to stay focused and will give me the chance to have tangible feedback on the strengths I have in a work setting and what I still need to work on. Overall, it enhanced my experience.
